Richard Wiley

Worland

Richard Lee Wiley (Dick), 85, died to this life at the Worland Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family and at peace on September 19, 2026. Dick was born on a farm near Norfolk, Nebraska on August 10, 1941 to Harley and Ethel Wiley.

Dick spent his early years in Nebraska. The family moved to Wyoming and eventually settled in Thermopolis. Dick graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1960. He married Carol Hornick and two children were born to this union, Marsha and Chad. Dick and Carol divorced in 1968. Dick married Delores Williams on October 8, 1973.

Dick worked some wild jobs - like picking rocks off the Wind River Canyon walls for the road expansion. He worked for WYDot as a snowplow operator and was stationed at South Pass. Then he found Halliburton Services. He worked for Halliburton in Worland and Powell. Dick was a cementer extraordinaire. Oil and drilling companies facing difficult jobs would request that Wiley be on this job. Dick was a good employee and a good supervisor.

Dick was the kind of guy who was always helping other people. He was a great son, his parents counted on him and he was happy to help them out. He was loved by his two sisters (Carolyn and Marilyn) and his younger brother (Terry). Family was important to Dick and he was always there to help when his siblings needed him.

Dick hunted elk, rode four-wheelers, went on ocean cruises, put his house together on Lane 11 in Powell, built his garage, and loved to barbeque his famous ribs and share them with everybody. For Dick, life was not a spectator sport - he was fully engaged and he lived a full and active life.

Dick had a quiet faith in Christ, but it was strong. Dick was ready to be taken home to Christ and to be with his beloved Delores or “Lovee” as he called her. Dick died of what he called Old Geezer-itis. We will all miss Dick and his amazing ability to adapt to whatever life gave him or took away from him.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Ethel; his first wife Carol; and his wife of 49 years, Delores.

He is survived by children, Marsha and Chad; stepchildren, Debra (Steve) Mitchell, Dean (Kathy) Williams and Diane Welch; sisters, Carol (Dick) Boots and Marilyn (Ray) Leech; brother, Rev. Terry (Tina) Wiley and several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dick’s brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Cathie Paxton were faithful and loving caretakers for Dick through his final years of life.

We thank you, Lord, for giving Dick to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth. Give us your aid so we may see in death the gate to eternal life, that we may continue our course on earth in confidence until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before us; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
