Roberta Holland Wood, 74, passed away at the home of her oldest daughter, Cathy Strickler on Monday July 7, 2003 in Spring Creek, Nevada after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
She was born February 14, 1929 in Worland, Wyoming, the youngest child of Earl and Helen Haynes Holland. She married George Wood on July 1, 1951 in Dubois, Wyoming. Together they built their home on the edge of Deep Creek Canyon where she was a dedicated partner in their ranching operations. Later they moved off the mountain to a small place on the upper No Wood. When Earl Holland passed away. They then moved onto the 1/4 Ranch. There they raised their 4 daughters, Cathy Strickler (Barry) of Spring Creek, Nevada; Joy Lyman (Phillip) of Ten Sleep; Diane Hawkes (Philip) of Caldwell, Idaho; and Pearl Wood of Boise, Idaho. Her life long passion for ranch life was hi-lighted by the raising of beautiful quarter horses and charlais cross cattle. Bobbie had an extra-ordinary understanding of animal behaviors and genetics, which she used to continually upgrade the quality of their livestock.
Bobbie's hobbies included clay sculpture, drawing, arrowhead hunting with her many grandchildren, gardening, poultry, keeping a journal, studying her religion and long walks in the country. She found great joy in being member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in Relief Society, Primary, Seminary and the Young Women's Program. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Carol Hill and Mary Prewett, her brother Louis Holland and her beloved husband, George.
She will leave a void in the lives of her four daughters, 25 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her extended family and many friends. Her funeral will be Saturday, July 12, 2003 in the Ten Sleep Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints @ 1:00 PM. Viewing to be from 11:30 to 12:30 at the Ten Sleep Ward Building. Memorial donations in Bobbie's honor may be given to the Hospice organization of choice.
