Roger Calvin Runge, 78 year old Worland resident passed away October 1, 2006 in Billings, MT due to complications from surgery.

Roger was born on January 7, 1928 in Kearney, NE to Charles and Blanche (Fleharty) Runge.

Roger attended elementary school in a school house in the Sand Hills. The Boy Scouts of America played a very important part of the formative years of his childhood. He achieved the rank of Star Scout. In later years he was also a Scoutmaster at Rangely, CO. He graduated from Morrill High School in 1945.

Roger enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and was part of the 1st AAA Guided Missile Battalion in White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. He received a commendation for Expert Rifleman. Upon his discharge in White Sands, NM, he attended New Mexico A & M. He relocated to Wyoming where he attended the University of Wyoming. Roger was the President of Alpha Kappa Psi, the national professional business fraternity and was also a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a Degree in Business Science.

On June 20, 1952 Roger married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Hampton. They were married in Worland, but soon moved to Casper where he worked as an accountant for Stanolind Oil and Gas Company. Roger and Shirley moved back to Worland in 1954 to raise their family. He continued his accounting practices until his retirement in 1988. He specialized in farm and ranch accounting. Roger had been enrolled to practice accounting before the IRS and was accredited in Accounting and Taxation. He was a member of the Wyoming Association of Public Accountants.

Roger served for six years on the Board of Washakie County School District #1 and also served as chairman of that Board. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and served various terms on the Vestry at St Alban’s Church, including Senior Warden and Junior Warden. His hobbies included woodworking, calligraphy, piano tuning and music.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Alice Runge and one brother, Jack.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Worland and two daughters Terese, husband John, Alexander and their children Katee and Lauren of Bozeman, MT and Kristi, husband Tom Basinger and daughter Heather of Helena, MT.
