Roy James “Jim” Clifton, 96, passed away on June 2, 2026, at Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Jim was born on August 2, 1929, in Greybull, Wyoming, the only child of his devoted parents, Roy James Clifton Sr. and Elva Etta (Rule) Clifton. He grew up in the Bighorn Basin area and graduated from Greybull High School in 1947, going on to attend the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Jim served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War after which he made a career as a railroad conductor.
Jim would probably say the greatest blessing he received in life began with a blind date—when he met Dolores “Dee” Sackett while she was living in Big Horn and he was working a summer job at the Wyoming State Game and Fish bird farm. Jim and Dee fell in love and married on August 19, 1951. The addition of two cherished sons completed their family. They enjoyed raising their sons together, being with family and friends, and gathering around a table to play cards or dominoes.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dee; his parents, and brother-in-law Kenneth.
He is survived by his loving sons, Michael (Pamela) Clifton of Big Horn, Wyoming, and Jerry (Debra) Clifton of Greybull, Wyoming; his grandchildren, Aaron James “AJ,” Michaela, and Katie (Josh) Petree; and his great-grandchildren, Ava, Jase, Olivia, and Lucy.
