Obituary

Ruth Eleanor Pletcher

September 13, 1937 – April 22, 2024

Ruth Eleanor Pletcher, 86, passed away April 22, 2024 at the Thermopolis Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Ruth was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 13, 1937, to John Julius and Eleanor Zella (Herzell) Vinson. She was named after her mother and grandmother. Childhood was not easy for Ruth. As a little girl, Jesus came to her. She was counseled, "Don't be afraid, I will never leave you!"

She was the mother of three children, Timothy Patrick Spangler, Michael Anthony and Lori Anne Gavaldon. She worked hard to provide for her family, but always felt she needed more training to find a better paying job. She went back to school, receiving her GED. Despite the financial difficulties, Ruth always felt she had a good life and tried to be the best mother that she could. She enjoyed taking the family to church where she helped in Sunday School and Nursery. She participated in a lot of hospitality and benevolence ministries. Her faith was strong and so were her prayers for other people. She was saved at age 29 and was baptized in First Christian Church in Lynnwood, California. She learned the Bible well and kept it in her heart, never letting go of her faith.

On February 13, 1986, she married Donald Lee Pletcher in Las Vegas, Nevada, whom she had met through her son in California. Together they traveled and did some regional exploration. The couple came to Worland in 2005. They led a quiet life, but they had each other and that's all they really wanted.

Ruth was at home in the kitchen. She loved cooking, baking and making big Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Don enjoyed her cooking immensely. When she wasn't in the kitchen, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts. She collected angels, as they reminded her of her relationship with her Savior.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael in 2017 and Timothy in 2019; half-sisters, Joyce, Linda and Nancy. Survivors include her husband, Don of Worland; daughter, Lori Anne (John) Craig of Casper, Wyoming; grandchildren, Amber Brough and Larry Brough; great-grandchildren, Marissa and Charles Brough; brother, John Harold Vinson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and half-sister, Betty Gladson of Murray, Kentucky.
