Obituary
Sally Ann Miller
October 24, 1957 - June 25, 2026
Sally entered the presence of her Savior on June 25, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, education, music, and a community forever touched by her love.
Born on October 24, 1957, in Elko, Nevada, to J. Kirk Nielsen and Virginia (Harman) Nielsen, Sally moved with her family to Worland, Wyoming, in 1963. She graduated from Worland High School in 1976 before attending the University of Wyoming, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1979.
She began her teaching career at St. Stephen’s Elementary in 1979. On November 22, 1980, she married her best frenemy and the love of her life, David Miller, beginning a 45 year life together filled with laughter, devotion and more than a few spirited discussions. That fall, she joined the Worland School District, where she dedicated 42 years to education. She began in fourth grade before eventually finding her heart in kindergarten, becoming for generations of children their first teacher, biggest encourager, and steady voice of belief in their potential.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and served faithfully through Zion Church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the Zion Choir, Praise Team and The Believers, and helping with children’s music ministry, VBS and Sunday school. Music filled her home, and chances were good that the Enlightened station was already playing when you walked through the door.
She was also active in Today’s Homemakers, where many knew her as the familiar face scooping ice cream during fair week.
In 1984 she became a mother to Matthew, followed by Mark in 1986 and Alissa in 1988. Her children were her world—and then came eight grandchildren who quickly became her world all over again.
Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. If there was a sporting event, an activity, a 4-H livestock show, or an errand to run, she was there—usually with several grandchildren in tow.
She could be found in bleachers, barns, fairgrounds and in her car, serving as chauffeur, cheerleader, counselor, and homework supervisor. Her life revolved around theirs and they never had to wonder if she would show up.
She also had a gift for hospitality. Her home was a gathering place where family and friends were always welcomed with a meal, conversation, and often a second helping whether they asked for it or not. Her kitchen rarely lacked something sweet and homemade cookies were a constant gift she shared freely. Students at the middle and high school looked forward to the cookies she faithfully brought to FCA meetings. Baking was simply one of the ways she showed love.
She cherished her friendships and was known for her fierce loyalty. She showed up—through celebrations, hardships, and everyday life—with steady encouragement, a listening ear, a prayer and unwavering support.
She loved life’s simple rhythms: delivering meals to the field as a devoted farm wife, reading a good book, daily walks, and spending time in the Wyoming mountains. She was a familiar sight at the health club each morning and could often be seen power walking through Worland with determination.
She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Matthew (Brittany), Mark (Kacie), and Alissa (Cameron); her eight beloved grandchildren: Brylee, Addalynn, Brody, Tenley, Breck, Grady, Corbin and Ridgely; brother John (Becky) Nielsen, Sister in law Cheryl (Rick) Apland and nephew Joel (Hannah) Apland.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kirk and Virginia Nielsen, in-laws Gene and Lorraine Miller, and niece Andrea Apland.
While her family mourns her absence, they find comfort in knowing that the faith she lived so faithfully has now become sight. They rejoice in the promise that she has heard the words she longed for most: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
