Vera Esther (Rehberg) Hausauer
May 2, 1938 - December 17, 2024
Vera Hausauer, 86, passed away surrounded by her family on December 17, 2024 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyoming. She was born to Emil Rehberg and Ida (Miller) Rehberg in Halliday, North Dakota.
Vera attended school in Werner, graduating from high school in a class of four. She attended one year of college at Dickinson State Teachers College and then went on to teach in a one-room school house. On June 22, 1958, Vera married Edward "Ed" Hausauer and they welcomed their daughter, Carol, in 1959. The marriage lasted nearly 64 years.
Along with family members, Ed and Vera purchased the Plaza Hotel in Thermopolis, Wyoming. The family owned and operated the Plaza for 30 years. After selling the Plaza in 1989, Vera worked as a cook for the Hot Springs County Senior Center. She also served as a Senior Companion bringing friendship and sunshine to many elders in Thermopolis.
A woman of faith, Vera was active in her church – St. Paul Lutheran in Thermopolis. Vera and Ed made many lifelong friends there. After retirement, Vera enjoyed homemakers club, cooking and baking, reading, crossword puzzles, her flowers, sitting in the sun but, most of all she cherished staying connected to a vast network of family and friends. Not a day went by that she didn't have drop-in guests or phone calls.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ed in 2022. She is survived by daughter Carol (Walter Huber) of Cody, Wyoming; brother Donald Rehberg (LaRue) of Boise, Idaho; brother-in-law Donald Hausauer (Phyllis) of West Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
