September 24, 1930- May 3, 2026

A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday June 4, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Trippel officiating.

Wesley Edward Strampe, 95, passed away at his home in Worland, Wyoming on May 3rd, 2026. Wes was born in Chandler, Minnesota on September 24, 1930, to Edward and Rose (Oeffner) Strampe. He grew up on the family dairy farm, attended District #99 Rural School and then graduated from Chandler High School in 1948. Although he valued his upbringing on the farm, he was ready to leave behind milking the cows. He then went on to college at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. During his college years, he also worked at the historic Alex Johnson Hotel in Rapid City as a bell boy. He recalled carrying the luggage for well-known Western movie stars who were filming movies in the Black Hills.

Wes graduated in 1952 with a Bachelors in Mining Engineering. He began his career on June 9, 1952 as a District Engineer at the Montana-Dakota Utilities gas transmission plant in Worland. In 1959 he became Assistant District Superintendent and in 1962, Superintendent. Shortly after that Wes was promoted to Field Manager, and continued in that role until his retirement in 1992. He felt blessed to work at the Worland facility throughout his 40-year career.

Shortly after moving to Worland, he noticed a cute local gal working at the Stockgrowers State Bank. They started dating and on August 23, 1953, Wes married Clara Jean Seifert. They raised two sons, Greg and Brian, and were blessed to have celebrated 72 years of marriage in August 2025.

Wes and Clara are active members of Grace Lutheran Church. They were volunteers with the Oktoberfest celebrations in Worland in the 1970's and supported the Tyrolean dance group. They delivered Meals on Wheels together. Wes was a long-time member of the Elks, Worland Country Club and past president of the Rotary Club. He served as a volunteer fireman, a member of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Water Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and gardening, but golf was his favorite pastime.

Wes is survived by his wife Clara Strampe of Worland; his two sons: Greg Strampe of Laramie, and Brian (Kelly) of Thermopolis; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Chris (Kelly) Strampe & Camille and Magnus of Torrington; Bryce (Jessica) Strampe & Emberlynn and Theodore, Nicholas (Courtney) Strampe & Caroline and Scottlyn, Janelle (Lucas) Fried & Adeline, Eli, Oliver, and Clara, all of Cheyenne; Reece (Julianne) Lindsey and Gavin of Monument, CO. Preceding Wes in death were his parents, brother, Vernon and sisters, Dorothy and Lorraine.
